Ways To Motivate Your Kids To Be Active

Nowadays, children are more likely to spend time on gadgets. A lot of kids would prefer to stay at home than to play sports and be active outside. We can still change that habit!

Here are helpful tips on How To Motivate Your Kids To Be Active!

MAKE A LIST OF THINGS YOUR KID ENJOYS DOING

Observe and ask your child what he/she likes to do. Write it down and make a separate list for activities involving physical activities and those including screen time.

Once you have established your child's activities, think of creative ways on how to engage your child in physical activity. You can ask your child:

"If you were to live in a place where there's no gadgets and electricity, what fun things would you like to do?"

Here are a few activities that your child might enjoy even in the comforts of your own home:

-Play hide and seek

-Painting or crafting

-Jog on your backyard

-Invite his/her friends to play

-Ask for help in household chores

-Try out jump ropes and hula hoops

-Dance or do Zumba

-Try baking

-Ask help for household chores

-Play with pets

-Walk instead of riding the car if the destination isn't too far

-Skateboard

-Basketball

-Backyard swimming party

LIMIT SCREEN TIME

Offer something that your child would enjoy doing instead of sitting in front of the TV or computer the whole day. You can ask him/her to go to a local park, enroll in dance classes, join a sporting club for kids, bring him/her to the beach, join fun runs, etc. Let your child join social activities where he can make friends so that he/she will have something to look forward to.

GIVE YOUR CHILD A REWARD

Acknowledge your child and give positive feedback on what he/she does. Giving a reward like his/her favorite food, favorite toy, going to a place he/she wants to go, etc.

Rewards can also be in the form of sporting goods like: Rollerblades, Bicycles, Yoga Mat, Scooter, Hula Hoops, Ball (basketball, volleyball, soccer), Badminton racket and shuttlecock.

PLAN YOUR VACATIONS

Kids love to explore and one way to incorporate exercise is going on a vacation to places he/she has never been to. You can try out camping, fishing, or hiking. They won't only see beautiful views and explore new places but, would make them exercise without having them noticing it.

JOIN YOUR CHILD

Don't forget to join your child in every activity he/she will make. You are your child's role model. If your child sees that you are enjoying doing physical activities, he/she will mimic you. You can both build a habit together and you'll have more bonding sessions as well.

MAKE IT A HABIT

Lastly, make it a routine. Don't pressure your child into doing it but make him/her feel that it is fun to do. You'll eventually realize that your child is already building a healthy habit by exercising.
